We are currently recruiting for an Estimator who will work in our Precison Doors & Hardware branch in Baltimore, Maryland.

The estimator is a critical position within Cook & Boardman, LLC. Estimators are responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings, ensuring a thorough understanding of project specific requirements that are necessary to successfully bid a project. Estimators are responsible for quantitative take-offs and the solicitation and evaluation of vendor and subcontractor proposals. The estimator will also work closely with the general contractor's pre-construction department to ensure overall satisfaction. Industry specific on the job training and education will be provided.
Essential Functions
Receives construction plans, drawings and specifications and reviews for familiarization; checks for completeness; notes bid deadlines and any special requirements (i.e. bonding, phasing, etc.)
Interprets construction documents and identifies applicable portions to be bid, including installation labor where appropriate.
Determines best potential vendors to supply products needed based on construction documents, price, delivery schedules, lead times and other pertinent factors.
Negotiates with potential vendors to determine available discounts; keeps clear record of quotes and discounts.
Remains alert for value engineering opportunities.
Enters applicable information into Comsense system and prices project based on computer-generated costs.
Responsible for complete door, frame and hardware take offs and costing entire scope of work.
Summarizes estimated costs by product type, and applies competitive mark-up.
Writes a clear and concise proposal outlining scope of work and pricing.
Defines qualifications and exclusions to cover project issues and protect company interests. Include sales terms and conditions.
Discuss and clarify all aspects of proposal with bidding contractors, including price and scope.
Other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications
2 year degree in technical, engineering or related area preferred, or 5 years of job related experience
1-5 years of related experience in similar construction or building material industry preferred
Experience working in Comsense preferred
Detail oriented
Ability to handle all types & scopes of projects
Deadline conscious
Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screen
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Must have excellent oral communication skills and positive interpersonal skills.
Must have effective time management skills.
Must have strong organizational skills.
Must be detail oriented.
Must have good mathematical skills.
Prior experience with blue print reading/specification interpretation is a plus.
Prior knowledge of door, frame and hardware applications as they relate to UL, fire code, building code, ADA, life safety and other restrictions that relate to the general commercial construction industry is a plus.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
