Director, Clinical Informatics

General Summary Under limited supervision, directs the clinical informatics department in the planning, development, testing, implementation and support of UMMS clinical information systems focusing on the electronic health record. Serves as liaison between UMMS clinical teams, leadership and technical departments. Provides overall direction and guidance to assigned informatics personnel. Manages resources and processes dedicated to clinical information systems including design and implementation of new systems. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified. Provide leadership in the development, deployment, and ongoing optimization of clinical information systems with a focus on the electronic health record. Develops objectives, strategies, and tactics which allow for development, implementation and optimization of mission-critical clinical information systems. Leads and supervises a multidisciplinary team of clinical experts in design implementation, and optimization of clinical information systems. Improves the quality and effectiveness of UMMS's electronic health record strategy by providing leadership, coordinating, and facilitating the evaluation and improvement of a wide range of programs. Excellence is reflected in improved client outcomes and organizational performance. Establishes standards of performance and productivity; determines staffing needs in conjunction with the Senior Leadership. Assures appropriate administration of UMMS policies and procedures by subordinate managers and project leaders. Establishes and implements departmental performance standards. Measures performance against standards and assures appropriate action is taken when standards are not met. Investigates irregularities and policy violations and implements or assure implementation of corrective action. Reviews recommendations of and provides guidance and counseling to subordinate staff regarding employee relations matters. Promotes positive employee relations and resolves departmental problems. Resolves staff grievances as needed. Assists in the formulation and approval of the UMMS Clinical Informatics operating and capital expenditure budgets. Prepares and administers same for assigned areas, incorporating long and short-term goals and forecasting personnel, equipment, software and educational/training needs. Monitors expenditures to assure fiscal responsibility and accountability. Assists Senior Leadership with matters concerning department budget, major purchase priorities and projects requiring large capital expenditures Develops and implements procedures necessary for cost-efficient operations. Maintains appropriate records and statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes and assures the maintenance of complete and accurate records. Establishes performance improvement initiatives aimed at improving customer service, operating costs and departmental functions/department productivity. Develops and executes effective control process and compliance monitoring procedures to ensure risks are measured, monitored, controlled, and mitigated. Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through the design, testing, and implementation of clinical systems. What You Need to Be Successful: Education and Experience Master's degree in business, informatics, nursing or other clinical specialty, or related field required. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
